3GNY Stories Live: WEDU Wednesday Featuring Dave Reckess

Join us as Dave Reckess, 3GNY's Executive Director, shares the story of his grandmother, Sarah Tuller.

Sarah was 16 when Nazis invaded her hometown of Lublin, Poland, in 1939, and forced her into the Lublin Ghetto. After escaping from the Majdanek Concentration Camp, she survived along with her parents by hiding in the small apartment of a Polish Catholic family for over 3 years.

Dave recalls his Bubi Sarah as a spunky, spirited storyteller who loved dancing, playing cards, and being around other people. Her dynamic personality endeared her to everyone she met; Dave often called her “Everybody’s Bubi.”

About Dave:
Dave Reckess, the grandson of four Holocaust survivors, has been the Executive Director of 3GNY since March 2021. After Bubi Sarah passed away in 2020, Dave knew it was up to him - along with his siblings and cousins - to keep her stories alive for future generations. He was grateful to discover 3GNY and the WEDU training, which helped him honor her memory by continuing to tell her stories.

Dave quickly felt at home in the 3G community, and was thrilled to find a new professional home as 3GNY’s first Executive Director. Dave is honored to lead 3GNY, support 3Gs in telling their family stories through WEDU, and help others find meaning and connection as grandchildren of Holocaust survivors.
