3GNY Stories Live: WEDU Wednesdays Barns, Underground, and an Attic: Surviving in Hiding Featuring WEDU Speaker Dana Raviv

Dana Raviv is the granddaughter of two Holocaust survivors, Harry and Sara Mostysser. Harry and Sara survived the Holocaust together by hiding in barns, in holes dug in the ground, and ultimately in the attic of one righteous gentile in Poland.

Dana will focus on her Bubby Sara’s story: Sara was always much more willing to speak of the atrocities they survived, while Harry kept much of his story to himself, often reliving the experience in nightmares. Thanks to the Shoah Foundation’s work of recording video testimony in the 1990’s, Dana was able to gather details of her grandparents’ story that they often did not share with their grandchildren.

Dana became a 3GNY speaker in 2020 to provide students with a more tangible picture of what happened during the Holocaust, in the hopes that they would apply history’s lessons to instances of dictatorship and genocide still occurring today. She was committed to telling her family’s story while her grandmother is alive, so that Bubby Sara would know that children will learn from what her family suffered.

Dana lives in Brooklyn with her husband and newborn son. She has a background in nonprofit work and currently manages a sales team for Justworks, a Professional Employer Organization supporting small businesses.
