Location: Virtual Event via Zoom

Cost: Free, please RSVP

On June 29th at 7pm, join 3GNY and 2G of Greater New York as we explore the life and legacy of Dr. Korczak through a discussion moderated by internationally renown psychologist, Holocaust expert and child of survivors Dr. Eva Fogelman with author Marcia Talmage-Schneider. In her book "Janusz Korczak: Sculptor of Children's Souls" she interviews elderly surviving graduates of his orphanages who detail their experiences and his indelible impact on their lives.

Who was Janusz Korczak?

Dr. Janusz Korczak (1879 - 1942) was the pen name of Henryk Goldszmit, an acclaimed Polish-Jewish pediatrician, children's author and advocate, popular journalist and innovator in the field of child rearing, whose theories are regarded worldwide today as decades ahead of their time. While overseeing two orphanages in Warsaw, he continued his role as a selfless protector of underprivileged children even as they faced the horrific conditions of the ghetto. Despite many offers to escape and save himself he chose ultimately to accompany "his children" into the gas chambers of Treblinka.

"They (children) should be allowed to grow into whoever they were meant to be. The unknown person inside each of them is the hope for the future." - Janusz Korczak

Also featuring Mariola Strahlberg, president of the Korczak Association of the USA, who will discuss her efforts to promote the rights of children and to bring attention to this little known tragic heroic figure of the Holocaust.
