3GNY Stories Live: WEDU Wednesdays Surviving -- and Saving Lives Featuring WEDU Speaker Jared Kingston

Jared will share the story of his paternal grandfather, Sewek Kingston (formerly Szyja Kenigsztajn), born in Piotrkow Trybunalski, Poland on May 10, 1921. During the war he survived the Piotrkow Trybunalski Ghetto, Buchenwald, and Theresienstadt.

Through acts of courage, Sewek and his family members did what they could to save others, even strangers. He was liberated by the Soviets on May 8, 1945, and immigrated to the United States in 1951.

You'll also find out how a chance encounter during the Holocaust would be revealed 66 years later.

Jared Kingston:

Jared was born and raised in southern Maine. He has been a volunteer for 3GNY WEDU since 2020. Growing up Jared always felt a strong connection to his family’s experience during the Holocaust and wanted to share their stories as a way to combat persecution, racial injustice and anti-semitism.

Jared lives in Manhattan with his husband. He graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations. He currently works at American Express in the Global Consumer Services Group.
